Why less representation of women in legislature?

Introduction

Women play many different roles in our life such as mother, sister, friend, wife, etc. They care about us, think about us, and work the whole day for us. Although everyone says that society is dominated by men but still women play a very crucial role in the development of society. They constitute one of the biggest parts of our society. In various fields, women are stepping with men and every time they have proved their efficiency. So, we should respect women and thank them by providing their dues to them.

As women are an integral part of society, similarly they are significant for the governing of society. So in today's blog, we discuss that
Why there is less representation of women in politics?
Why women don't get equal opportunities?
Why women are considered inferior?

And try to answer these questions.

Please have a look at this graph given below
Through this graph, you can easily understand the position of women in our lok sabha (lower house) since independence.

Now the question ❓ arises why is it so?

1. In most cases family don't permit a woman to contest an election against men.

2. In some cases lack of money is also a hurdle in the path of contesting the election.

3. Many times men dominated society fully suppress the courage of women.

4. Fear to lose the election is also an aspect of not contesting an election.

5. Lack of opportunities especially in rural areas where they were considered to do only household works. They don't get equal and fair opportunities.

6. Seats have been reserved in the panchayats and municipal corporations for women but still, the problem comes out is that during the election or after election women can't exercise power instead their husbands take their full power and responsibility. Which is completely unfair.

7. Even the women are not contesting the election herself she is not free to vote according to her choice. Her family's senior member decide that.

8. Lack of awareness about elections and their importance is also a major factor. And in some stances, they don't take it seriously because they don't know the actual power of election.

8. By Orthodox politics is not considered a field of women due to dirty practices

The solution to this problem will be given by you in the comment section and you have to take a stand. As you are a part of the society.

  1. Well written.

One solution is that men will have to change their mindset, which unfortunately cannot happen in one go. Another one is that women themselves will have to raise their voice and come forward by themselves (which will require sentimental sacrifice of women)
