Why Is India Unhappy ???

India has been ranked 139 out of 149 countries in the list of UN World Happiness Report 2021. This report is issued by UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

In a statement, they said, that they mainly focused on the effects of covid-19 on the structure and quality of people's lives and evaluates how governments all over the world deal with the pandemic.
Finland has achieved the title of the happiest country in the world followed by Iceland, Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherland, Sweden, Germany, and Norway.

If we talk about our neighbors, Pakistan ranked 105, Bangladesh 101, and China is on 84th rank.

India ranked
- 144 in 2021
- 140 in 2019
- 133 in 2018
What are the criteria of the ranking?

In the world happiness report, countries are ranked based on life evaluation which includes quality of life.
Evaluations are obtained from the World Gallup Poll which asks its respondents to score themselves between 0 to 10 based on their quality of life.

1) Score between 7 and more classified as 'thriving'.
2) Score between 4 to 7, are said to be 'struggling'.
3) scores below 4, are termed as 'suffering'.

On an average Indian citizen is struggling as far as life satisfaction is concerned.

Jayshree Sengupta, economist, and author had written in the context of India’s slipping rankings.

According to her, the country’s chronic unhappiness is a result of many factors: rapid urbanization and congestion in cities, concerns about food security and water safety, rising costs of health care, women’s safety, and environmental pollution, which itself is linked to poor mental wellbeing.

Major reasons behind unhappiness in India:

1. Declining income and unemployment

Because of the nationwide lockdown, there was a steep decline in the income level from April 2020, where the decline of 19% in rural areas and 41% in urban areas is recorded. After lockdown unemployment rate has raised to 24%.

2. Corruption in the country

According to Corruption Perception Index (CPI) 2020, India scored 40 out of 100.
- score between 90-100, represent a very clean nation
- score between 0-10, represent our highly corrupt nation

India ranked 86 among 180 Nations on CPI 2020

3. Lack of social support

India scored 0.617 in the field of social support, which is higher than just 3 countries out of 95, which means, in India people do not get the required social support. India is the nation that gave the principle that the whole world is a family but India itself lakh in social support.

4. Low level of education attainment

India attained a score of 0.617, higher only to the scores of three countries out of the total 95 nations for which data was collected in the 2020 survey. In other words, as far as social support is concerned, India ranks as low as 92 among 95 nations for which data were available.

5. India failed in the health sector

There are several diseases in India taking the lives of lakhs of people every month. And India cannot be happy unless it is healthy.

Any Indian citizen who is 18yrs old and above has the right to vote and contest the election.13 Dec 1989 was the date when the starting age was reduced to18yrs from 21yrs. There is a constitutional body in India that handles the whole election procedure from the election of Prime Minister to Sarpanch. When India became independent thousands of questions arose in the minds of constitution-makers. One major question among all these was- Should illiterate people have the right to vote? We know that voting is a very big responsibility in a democracy. After a lot of debates and arguments, the decision was taken and voting right was also given to illiterate citizens. Arguments in favor  1. By not providing them the right to vote, we are violating their right to equality. 2. An illiterate voter can distinguish between genuine promises and false promises.  3...

Introduction: The very unfortunate news has come from the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand where a part of the Nanda Devi glacier is broken which caused the flood. Until now 15 people have lost their lives and 100+ are missing and very heavy destruction have happened to two hydropower plants. What is a glacier? The collection of a very huge amount of ice for a very long time in a particular area where that ice does not melt due to the climatic conditions of that area. Example mountain 🏔️ tops, Alaska and Iceland. Due to the regular deposit of ice, its weight increases continuously which leads...
